In July 2024, Zhou Enlai School of Government launched the international summer course titled "Global South in International Politics." The course aims to foster students' global perspectives and sense of mission. The instructors were Xiaoyu PU, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, USA, and Sebastián Bitar, Associate Professor at the Alberto Lleras Camargo School of Government at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia.
Associate Professor Xiaoyu PU delivered in-depth lectures on the role of the Global South, represented by BRICS countries, in international politics, with a particular focus on how norms are transmitted and internalized during shifts in the global order. Associate Professor Bitar, using case studies from Latin America, examined the historical integration of the region into the global capitalist system and how it has navigated hegemonic pressures, major power politics, and challenges to state-building.
Their teaching brought cutting-edge international relations research into the classroom, offering students an immersive and internationalized learning experience. The course successfully broadened students' global perspectives and enhanced their cross-cultural communication and global competency skills.
