About the Center

The United Research Center of Chinese Government Development, established in 2008, is a university think tank committed to researching and solving major issues in China's current political and social life, serving government decision-making and providing policy advice.

In April 2011, we were approved as a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Tianjin. In 2018, we were selected as "Chinese Think Tank Index" (CTTI) and "University Think Tank in Tianjin"; In 2020, we changed our name from "The United Research Center for Chinese Government and Policy" to "The United Research Center of Chinese Government Development ", and awarded "Tianjin Excellent University Think Tank".

Research team: Interdisciplinary linkage and optimization of resource integration

Since its establishment, we have set up a number of related but independent research centers to integrate the quality research forces of related departments in the university.On this basis,the Center has kept on promoting  interdisciplinary cooperation and collective development by constructing an open platform. At the same time, we also employ outstanding scholars from some  international famous university as the center (part-time) researchers or researchers to further enrich and strengthen the backbone of the team's research.

 Research field: Focusing on government development and highlighting the Nankai's feature

We have always focused on the significant national strategic needs, taking the initiative to adapt to the needs of political development and global governance, and actively carrying out forward-looking research leading academic developing and significant public welfare research serving the national economy and people's livelihood. We have always paid close attention to the development of the Chinese government, urban management and social governance in an all-around way to promote research work.

We have published a series of research reports on the Development of the Chinese Government(2005-2021), Outline of Political Science, Modern Government Theory, Chinese Government Process, Research on the Law of Building a Service-oriented Government, Research Outline on the Transformation of Government Functions, and Great Nation Governance in the New Era, etc., which have improved the academic reputation of Nankai's political studies.

 Social services: facing major practices to serve the country and society

Since the beginning, we have always been adhering to the concept of " Understanding China and serving China", actively cooperating with the CCP and government organizations such as the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Editorial Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, Hainan Province and Tianjin Municipality. Our work has achieved great outcome, mainly reflected in the response to the central and local needs of strategic research and countermeasures of consultation, international cultural exchanges, and the dissemination of excellent traditional culture. Especially in the transformation of government functions, reform of government institutions, administrative management system, adjustment of administrative divisions, urban grassroots governance, government performance management, and so on. we have provided high-quality intellectual support for government decision-making.

In addition to serving the government's decision-making, we also actively speak out through various media such as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV and local newspapers of CPC. Team members participated in consultative TV interview programs as media guest commentators to promote innovative practice of local social governance.

 Center Director: Zhu Guanglei

Nankai Chair Professor, former Vice president of Nankai University, Expert group member of The State Council Functional Transformation Promotion Group, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Political Science; member of the Sixth and Seventh Political Science Subject Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council, Vice Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Social Sciences, and President of the Tianjin Public Administration Society. He is mainly engaged in research on Chinese government and politics, government management, and class & stratum issues.
