On June 6th, the first PPE (Philosophy-Politics -Economics) experimental class graduation ceremony as well as the specialty construction symposium was held in Zhou Enlai School of Government, Nankai University Jinnan Campus. Zhu Guanglei, Chair professor of Nankai University and Director of the Joint Research Center of the Chinese Government Development, attended the event and delivered a speech. Cheng Tongshun and Wu Xiaolin, Vice Deans of Zhou Enlai School of Government, and teacher representatives Wang Cungang, Huang Qingxian, Zhang Zhihong, Huang Weihua, Xu Mingqiang, Wang Xiang attended the symposium. The meeting was presided by Guo Daojiu, Director of the Department of Political Science.
Cheng Tongshun, on behalf of the college, reviewed the construction process of PPE experimental class and summarized its five characteristics. As the only PPE major that is daily managed by political discipline related colleges in China, Nankai PPE has educational advantages such as "one body two wings" discipline planning and " quaternity " training mechanism. PPE specialty training is based on solid academic training and encourages students to achieve diversified development. Guo Daojiu, the tutor of PPE experimental class, introduced the students' learning and class construction. During the in-campus period, the class members have carried out extensive innovative scientific research and social practice activities, won the national innovation and entrepreneurship awards for many times, and published many academic papers in the authoritative journals. The first PPE experimental class also actively carried out class culture construction, independently designed class song, class emblem, class flag and relevant cultural products, as well as launched academic activities such as "Zhou Yan Hui", which has obtained wide attention.
At the symposium, the participating teachers highly affirmed the achievements of PPE major construction, and encouraged the students to continue to scale new heights in the exploration of discipline collaborative innovation. The graduates who participated in the discussion all expressed their gratitude to Nankai, saying that they would live up to the expectation of the college and their teachers, and strive to be the new generation and bear the obligation of national rejuvenation. Meanwhile, the students also put forward specific suggestions on the training planning, curriculum and disciplinary development of PPE experimental classes.
Finally, Professor Zhu Guanglei made a conclusion. As an important part of the construction of "new liberal arts" of Nankai University, PPE experimental class aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with comprehensive knowledge of political science, philosophy and economics, as well as practical ability and theoretical thinking ability. He encouraged the students to continue to improve their integration ability in the future study and life, adhere to the Nankai spirit of “dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability”, and become a social science researcher with strong humanistic care.
The symposium ended successfully in the class song. It is reported that among the first PPE special class graduates, 17 students will continue their studies in Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nankai University, The London School of Economics and Political Science and other domestic and overseas well-known universities, with a graduate enrollment rate of 63%.
